2GHz Core Duo Samsung X60 PC |

The Samsung X60 is a bit of an upgrade over last year's model, the X50, but it's still no Alpha male laptop. Samsung will probably need to do some hard selling, and steep discounting, to make itself known in this thin and light notebook category-the middle of the pack. Middle of the pack, though, is not the worst place to be. The X60 boasts sterling build quality and sports the latest Intel Centrino technology: a Core Duo T2500 processor that cranks out 2GHz. |

Combine the
dual-core technology with the 2 GB of memory that Samsung
bequeaths the X60, and you should have no problem running all of
your favorite everyday apps. Some of these apps, for instance,
might have something to do with watching your favorite DVD on the
high-contrast, glossed-up 15.4-inch widescreen display. To help
deliver the crisp, vivid picture that the high-contrast gloss is
meant to bring, Samsung
includes an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics card with 256MB of dedicated memory. Again, it's middle
of the pack, so gamers will have to turn down the resolution to
get fluid playing. Your dawdling on the laptop may also involve storing your favorite images and mp3s on the 100GB hard drive, and burning them using the dual-layer DVD writer. All of your multimedia activities will also benefit from the Samsung X60's dual microphones on the sides of the touchpad, along with Samsung's AVD media playback controls. You'll probably have your browser open most of the time too. For such fun, there's an Intel PRO/Wireless Wi-Fi adapter and Ethernet, along with Bluetooth 2.0 to communicate wireless with your other e-devices. Test the Samsung X60 with explosive and intense gaming-and the X60 may slow and show its middle of the pack status. Other reasons why, ultimately, this Samsung does not lead the pack-are battery life under 3 hours and its current price tag upwards of $2,400 (£1,299.98).
