Ultraportable Sony Notebook - Vaio TX2

Image of Sony Tx2 Vaio notebook
The Sony VAIO TX2 might be best in breed for those ultra-thin laptops that have become popular with busy business folks and other people who put the mobility in "mobile computers." Then again, this new VAIO series may be an entirely new breed of laptop. At less than an inch thick and little more than 2.5 pounds, the laptop packs the computing power to nearly match a desktop replacement model.
In fact, the Sony Vaio TX series is the only "subnotebook" around with two spindles and an integrated optical drive. Back that up with an Intel Pentium M Centrino processor, and you have a little laptop that can go a long way. Not just figuratively, either-Centrino mobile technology helps the battery to last from New York to London and beyond-up to 7.5 hours.

Other hardware on this VAIO is built to impress as well. The optical drive mentioned earlier is a Super Multi Double Layer DVD with read-write capabilities. The double layering allows you to record as much as four hours more. Then play back your stored media to enjoy the 11.1-inch widescreen display with LED (the first laptop of its kind with this) and Sony's X-black LCD for brightness and vivid colors.

Then enjoy the finer touches that Sony added to the TX2 series. There's an Automatic Luminance Sensor, which automatically controls the screen brightness depending on the setting, and a wireless mouse. Can't forget the spiffy, carbon fiber and composite exterior either, which comes in black, white, and slate blue.

The finished product-you have an ultra-thin Vaio with brawn and beauty. A release date has yet to be announced, but expect these ultraportables to fly off the shelves in 2006, especially if they upgrade the Pentium M processor to a Yonah.
