The first 64GB USB flash drive will be available for purchase in a couple of weeks.

USB drives (thumb drives, memory sticks, etc...) are invaluable. They are light and easy to carry around, can hold more than a CD, can be used on any computer, and are all around awesome. The biggest problem with them is their limited size. For awhile, the largest you could hope to get was 4GB, which would barely hold one movie. Then the 8GB was released, and users gobbled them up like candy. Up until now, USB flash drives maxed out at 32GB. Transcend has announced at IFA 08 a new USB flash drive that sports a 64GB capacity, the first to hit the market. The unit will be the same size as any other USB drive, and will run on both 1.1 and 2.0 USB ports. The unnamed device will have a reading speed of 10MB per second, and a writing speed of 3MB per second. Just to put this in perspective, you could carry about 16 full length movies or 30000+ MP3s on one drive the size of your thumb. This will also make carrying a complete operating system, apps, and all your personal files along easier than ever. Expect to see the drive launch next month. The price will at $300, though it'll likely be half that in less than a year.

On another review of this I believe I saw that it was compatible for just about every Windows OS except Vista...which I find hard to believe. Anybody have any information on this? Or am I majorly retarded?

I have an 8GB, but I think I would pay more / wait longer to get better read/writes. These are pretty friggin slow.

I agree, but better still would be a massive price drop on SSDs.

As soon as I can get a 64GB USB drive for $100, I'm buying one. Maybe in another year or so, I reckon.....
