DirectX 10 Laptop Delivers Quad Core Performance |
![]() |
XtremeNotebooks delivered the future today with its
quad-core processing Xtreme 917v laptop. Let's just hope that
this future is not the post-apocalyptic kind where the machines
run the show and hunt us humans down for fodder (see the
Terminator and Matrix movies). This laptop could have the juice
to be well on its way toward free thought, which, as we know from
Hollywood, means the end for all mankind. |

The 917v is
packed with four central processors, the Intel Core 2 Quad
processor, making it the first laptop in the United States to be
distributed with this new chipset. Of course, XtremeNotebooks
doesn't tout the laptop as the first generation of machines that
will conquer civilization. It sells it as a first-of-its-kind,
"bleeding edge" desktop replacement-the words of the company
president, not mine-that can actually be carried around without
causing your back to give out. Its target
audience--graphics-obsessed folks, whether for work or for
play. Graphics, yes-it can come with dual SLI nVIDIA 8000 chips or Quadro graphics cards powered by Microsoft's graphics app interface DirectX 10, which boosts time and quality of 3D graphics weaved by the chips. That makes the Xtreme 917V something a cash-laden gamer must have, or a tool that engineers, military folks, architects, planners, or anybody could use with such graphics-intensive apps as AutoCAD, Pro/Engineer, and 3DS MAX, and mapping programs like ESRI and ArcGIS. Oh, and to save all these big projects you'll be creating, there's as much as a terabyte of storage, care of triple solid state or SATA 300 hard drives. However, all this power comes at a price, the Xtreme 917v is no ultraportable. Indeed, it weighs in at a muscular 12.5 pounds, so you'll benefit by having arms like Arnold Schwarzenegger to wield it. Use this Quad Core power for good, my friends. Or else, one day, Arnie might knock on your door looking for Sarah Conner. If he does, do not answer it.
