Psystar Update: Universal Boot Loaders to OEMs and Rebel EFIs For the Rest of Us

It's been a while since our last update on the doings of famed Hackintosh purveyor Psystar. The latest updates include ways to take the Good Fight against proprietary operating systems home, as well as increasing the likelihood that well see offerings from manufacturers besides Psystar as well.
Psystar has come out and licensed to 3rd parties what they call the Darwin Universal Boot Loader. DUBL for short, the program renders any machine loaded with it capable of installing Snow Leopard so long as you have an undoubtedly legal copy of the Mac OS X DVD. DUBL would support up to six operating systems on one machine, as part of Psystar's "quest" to being open computing to the world. If you're not an OEM and would like to transform your own personal computer into a hackintosh, well don't worry, papa Psystar is looking out for you too. A program called the Rebel EFI has recently been released, and it functions similarly to the DUBL. As long as your rig runs Intel Core 2 Duo or better (Core 2 Quad, i7, or Nehalem), you can install any modern OS, a description which I believe happens to include Snow Leopard, doesn't it? You can purchase the Rebel EFI today from Psystar's website if you'd like - better hurry though, we hear the introductory price of $49.99 won't last.
In many ways, I'm amazed Psystar is still around, but maybe that's just because of the sluggish way our judicial system runs. Psystar is still on a crash course for a court date with Apple in January 2010.
