Elect Plaid Cymru - Get a Free PC?
Rumour suggests that a popular political party in Wales, are set to offer free notebooks to school children if they are elected. A move aimed at improving the computer skills of children, or a cynical political ploy to milk floating votes?
MysteriousWales.....Home of historic castles, snow capped mountains, lushrolling valleys, and unpronouncable town names likeLlanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.Incidentally that's the longest single word domain name in theworld and translated from Welsh means "The church of St. Mary inthe hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St.Tysilio's of the red cave."
But I digress. Rumour has it that a political party of thisancient and beautiful land are considering a policy they hopewill milk votes from digitallysavvy, 21st century balloteers. Subsidised school meals? Theabolition of income tax? Season tickets to the CelticCrusaders?.....Nope. If the rumour is true Plaid Cymru or Plaid(party in Welsh) as they now like to be known, may soon beoffering free laptops for children, that is, if they win thisyear's National Assembly election.
Plaid have yet to officially confirm this new policy, but it'scertainly got me wondering how many laptops they'll be dishingout to grateful Welsh nippers? Also what will the cut off age befor the children lucky enough to receive a free notebook? Lastly what kind of specs are they considering for thesefreebies? Will the aforementioned PCs be core 2 duo multimediamonsters, or cheap $100 laptops courtesy of the OLPC?
Time will tell if this is a hoax, or a political masterplanworthy of Sir Winston Churchill himself. What next? The GreenParty offering the electorate free mini coopers with catalyticconverters? We can but hope! :)
