Blood Bank PC Missing With Sensitive DataThe Blood Bank of Delmarva, Delaware, recently reported the loss of a laptop that contains confidential and personal donor data. The laptop was being delivered to a blood drive in the city of Newark on February 17, when the computer supposedly fell out of the back of the transport truck.A witness claims to have seem something tumble from the truck. This motorist and staff from the Blood Bank then searched the area for the lost notebook to no avail. A spokesperson for the Blood Bank, David V. Bonk stated that the danger of fraud in this situation is slim. That someone would acquire the notebook and know how to use the confidential personal information for illegal schemes is not likely. "We have been assured that the risk of fraud from an accident like this is low," Bonk claimed, "but we want to do all that we can to protect our donors." After reflecting upon the significance of missing, notebook the Blood Bank is currently assessing its options with attorneys and the Delaware Attorney General's Fraud and Consumer Protection Division. In the unlikely event that the donor information is utilized in an improper fashion, the Blood Bank intends to throw the book at the offender. The Blood Bank is offering a $5000 reward in hopes of avoiding worst-case scenarios. Operations at the Blood Bank have not been affected by the missing notebook.
