Injured President Delivers Speech From Notebook

Fresh from the ordeal of undergoing painful surgery to treat a shoulder bone fracture, injured Indian Premiere - Abdul Kalam - decided to deliver a speech to his parliament peers, straight from the screen of a laptop computer.

Usually the "People's President" (as he is sometimes known) would read his address from a printed text, but unfortunately Kalam's painful shoulder left him unable to turn the pages.

The President sustained his injury earlier in the month, during a morning walk in the Rashtrapati Bhavan palace gardens, and was admitted to army hospital.

Under the watchful eye of hospital Commandant, L P Sadhotra, a closed reduction of the fracture was performed, a procedure in which a surgeon can set a broken bone without making an incision in the skin.

Thanks to the expertise of army hospital staff, and the trusty notebook, Abdul Kalam was able to deliver his speech without mishap.

When asked why President Kalam had chosen this unusual method of delivering his parliament address, SM Khan, press secretary to the President ,was quoted as saying:

".....the President, a computer expert, found this more convenient....."

Hats, topis, and turbans off to President Kalam for using his unfortunate injury to demonstrate the versatility of laptops.
