Will Portable Fuel Cell Systems lead to Hydrogen Powered Notebooks?Millennium Cell Inc. filed a report with the SEC recently, making it the latest technology company to join forces with the Dow Chemical Company. This electronic handshake secures a joint development program designed to enhance and expedite the proliferation of portable fuel cell systems to businesses, consumers, and the military.Combining Millennium's expertise in developing hydrogen energy systems for use most specifically in mobile electronics devices,(such as notebooks); and Dow Ventures' (a unit of the Dow Chemical Company) specialized focus in providing razor-sharp science and technology solutions to various industries, this powerful combo should increase sales, marketing and overall commercialization of fuel cell systems. The system will be based on Millennium's patented "Hydrogen on Demand" (R) technology along with Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cells, which will raise the bar on all other existing applications -- this system delivers in one dynamic punch, a new standard for longer runtimes; better performance; higher wireless availability and convenience for electronics, including laptops -- all in a highly compelling, lightweight package. The firms signed a three-year, milestone-driven agreement, which gives Dow the incentive to increase its resource commitment as milestones are reached: When Dow slam-dunks a milestone with flying colors, it then becomes entitled to more equity grants from Millennium. Sounds like a plan. And, looks like a win-win arrangement for both Dow, Millennium, and for consumers. Who knows, if portable fuel cell systems technology takes off big time, more eco friendly green laptops with 10 hours of battery life and (and longer) could be the norm.
