Millions of folks in the UK and US are currently clamoring for the new iPhone, set for official release in the next week or two. Here at Laptopical we prefer to get excited about another Apple product, namely the new upgraded Macbook Pro. The 15 inch version of this laptop should appeal to our eco-friendly readers as it's mercury free.
Full review of Macbook Pro
Mercury exposure has been linked to such awful, chronic, and incurable conditions such as Alzheimer's, autism, and multiple sclerosis. No one can be 100 percent sure about the connections-even the guys with the multiple Ph.D.s doing the research-but why take a chance? We should all do our part to limit mercury release into our environment. One of the newest, hippest and most powerful ways to do so are the updated Apple Macbook Pros.
Yes, besides making their new MacBook Pros some of the most potent and sleekest laptops in the world, Apple has also made them some of the most eco-friendly-call them organic Apples. The 15-inch versions are LED-backlit and contain no mercury, unlike most other IT products, which are a major source of the toxic metal.
That's a bonus for tree huggers, enviro-anarchists, and conscientious capitalists out there. But every other reader of Laptopical will savor the fast and the furious side of the Apples.
The engine under the hood in these new MacBook Pros is the Intel Core 2 Duo with at least 4MB of cache, 800MHz on the frontside bus, and 2GB of RAM-with processor speeds starting at 2.2 GHz, up to 2.4 GHz. For graphics, you're looking at a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT.
The wireless is faster too. Instead of using the 802.11g frequency, the MacBooks tap into the 802.11n network, which can boost speeds fivefold and double your wireless range. Bluetooth and Ethernet are included to round out multimedia connectivity, as well as an ExpressCard slot, FireWire port, built-in iSight camera, and a DVI video output.
As with any Apple, you get a bushel of software products, such as the iLife suite, Safari browser and OS X. But with any Apple, you get a price tag. The 15-inch, mercury free 2.2-GHz MacBook starts at $1,999. While at $2,799, you get a 17-inch display with optional uber-resolution (1920x1200), and the 2.4-GHz processor. The only problem with the 17-incher-it's got mercury in it.

Abid, why not try and find a used MBP? Get one 2-3 years old, almost as good and at a much lower price. Good Luck! The MBP is an awesome laptop.

Looks like Samsung's got another sexy laptop on display at CeBIT to go with the R70, R20 cheap hosting , and Q45 that we saw earlier in the show, and this one is aimed squarely at gamers on the go. The company's M-series has always incorporated high-end features -- various iterations of the M55 were among the first on the market with Blu-ray and HD DVD drives -- and the upcoming M60 is no different, sporting top of the line Core 2 Duo processors, Santa Rosa chipsets, BD drives, and most importantly, DirectX 10-compatible NVIDIA cards with 512MB of video RAM voip . Notebook Review tells us to expect these sometime in May or June, for an as-yet-to-be-determined price. It's an utterly inevitable upgrade to Intel's ubiquitous integrated graphics mobile chipsets, but we're still pleased to hear that it's coming sooner rather than later. TG Daily has learned that Intel's upcoming GM965 Crestline chipset, the core of the "Santa Rosa" platform, is indeed DirectX 10 compatible. It was already a bit of a surprise that some integrated graphics chips could handle Vista's Aero, but DirectX 10 implies a level of performance that should considerably exceed what we've seen in integrated laptop graphics previously. Naturally, we're not expecting much in the way of Crysis-level accomplishments (pictured), but that game is only the most visible of what are sure to be many more DirectX 10 games and apps in the future online payments . The most recent word is that the chipset should be making its debut in May, with four FSB800 processors in tow: the 1.8GHz T7100, 2.0GHz T7300, 2.2GHz T7500 and 2.4GHz T7600. A couple of low-voltage versions should show up soon after that.
