Itronix Hits Road With Rugged Hummer

It's getting tough all over. Anyone piloting a Hummer can now propel their powerful vehicle on the road, through the mud, or across the desert (or whatever one's particular terrain may be), with a Hummer laptop to match, thanks to Itronix Corp.'s rugged computer "companion," set to ship November 1, 2005.

The image of the powerful, rugged, go-anywhere super-vehicle of the Hummer, built initially for military use, has transcended the stealth of governmental operations and moved into industrial, business, urban and suburban life - it's definitely a monster machine: hungry, strong, and rugged - and for those who propel them, what better than a Hummer laptop to match -- in both ruggedness and durability - and for just under a tidy ticket of $3,000?

HUMMER's Global Product Director, Marc Hernandez, selected Itronix to license and build the specialized laptop because the company's laptop attributes were already on par with that of the vehicle: durable, high quality, and innovative.

Itronix have attempted to take these very marketable features to yet another level by ensuring that this laptop, unlike their commercial line models, would be built spec-specific: able to withstand extremely high and low temperatures; harsh environments; bumps, knocks, or spills; and excessive vibration.

This exclusive licensing agreement should be mutually beneficial to both companies: Itronix is expected to strengthen its market share with its "ruggedized" laptop, and HUMMER will have an extremely marketable product for drivers who already use and are familiar with high-end, top-of-the-line integrated wireless capabilities.

With a magnesium alloy casing featuring stainless steel hinges, the HUMMER laptop's overall design and performance software, including a front-loading battery, enhanced outdoor-viewable display and 1.86 GHz Intel Centrino Pentium M processor + 533 MHz FSB with a full cooling fan and 80 GB standard removable hard-disk drive, is hard to beat. And with three concurrent radios -- the standard Wi-Fi, optional GPS, and wireless broadband service -- this laptop, which also meets Military Specification (MIL-STD 810F) standards, is certainly a lightweight contender - in a ring by itself.
