About to spend $199 on a GPS? Why not drop that cash on a new Droid phone instead, and get a GPS + sick cell phone all rolled into one. With Google's new updated Maps Navigation feature, essentially full GPS functionality will be coming to Android 2.0 phones. Oh, and did we mention the app is free?

Google already had it's standard Maps feature available for freeuse on cell phones, and for many, that was good enough to render paying for a robotic voice to metallically call out directions turn by turn necessary. Now however, you can have your cake and eat it too, as Google's new Navigation Maps (beta) brings these features to Android phones for free.

Beyond the guiding voice, the app will feature 3D views and automatic rerouting just like any other GPS. It will also be able to search by voice, search for extras (like gas stations or restaurants) that are along your route, search for traffic, and give you either a street or satellite view.

The first phone to feature this app will be Verizon's Droid, running Android 2.0. Check out the video on Google's blog.

First of all thanks a lot for the great and informative article. I am very interested in various mobile device's applications so it was quite interesting and useful to read this your post about this subject. Well I have found even some new information which I have not known before. It is really sad that Google already had it's standard Maps feature available for free-use on cell phones. I hope that it would be created in the nearest future. Thanks a lot one more time for the useful information and I will be waiting for other great news from you in the nearest future.
