Fujitsu's Lifebook is a highly diverse series of business-oriented laptops ranging from tiny 8.9" ultraportables up to more traditional models like the one we're looking at today. The Fujitsu Lifebook 8410 is quite large and heavy for a business laptop with its 15.4-inch frame and 6 pounds (2.7 kg), so those who travel a lot might want to opt for one of the smaller models in the Lifebook lineup. That being said, the 8410 is quite pleasing to the eye with a nice-looking aluminum LCD cover and an overall build that looks solid.

Fast CPU - Lackluster Graphics

It's quite fast and responsive thanks to the T8100 "Penryn" CPU from Intel, which is one of the latest and greatest of Intel's Core 2 Duo notebook processors. It's built on a smaller 45nm technology that performs even better and more efficiently, without increasing power consumption and heat. Our test unit came with integrated Intel X3100 graphics, which is one of the worst possible choices for anyone looking to play games. It works fine for office applications, however, and as long as you don't use any 3D apps or games it provides some added battery life. Alternatively, you could fork over a little extra and get the 8410 outfitted with a dedicated Nvidia 8400M GPU instead of the Intel GMA.

Other Features

Considering that the Lifebook 8410 is a new and otherwise modern laptop, it's surprising when you have a look at the rear and find a couple of remnants from the Stone Age - parallel and serial ports! This is definitely unusual in this day and age, but it provides some versatility for business users who may need to connect to older equipment, and the extra ports are not in the way at any rate.

There's no lack of other connectivity options - the 8410 offers media card reader, infrared port firewire port, smart card reader, four USB ports, and of course the aforementioned serial and parallel ports. You also get both a PC Card slot and an Express Card slot.

All things considered, the Fujitsu 8410 is a well rounded, if bulky, business laptop with lots more features and ports than you would normally get. It's a shame about the lack of a dedicated graphics card - personally I wouldn't hesitate to chip in a little more for the GeForce 8400M, although that's hardly a gaming GPU either.

I have found this to be an excellent laptop. I've never had a problem with the battery life. In fact, I bought an external battery pack and have never had to use it while traveling. I love my Fujitsu!

Pathetic battery life, it shows 3 hrs battery backup and within 30 mins battery is gone, flickering of monitor, and eventhough the power cable is plugged it does'nt charge at all. It's been provided to me by my management institute and all 29 sets that our batch have received have these problem.Repeated complaints to the service centre are not yeilding any thing
