Thanks goes out to the KSDK news channel in St Louis and also Carl Berger, Director of Advanced Academic Technologies at the University of Michigan. They reminded us that Apple laptop stories have been about as common as a pair of brown shoes at a tuxedo rental shop here at Laptopical. Hopefully confidence in our reporting abilities will be restored thanks to this article from Laptopical's very own Matt Brodsky.

The nerd world always has considered Mac computers thecrème de la crème. Apple is the gold standard forpeople in serious need of Apple's specialized graphic art, photography, desktop publishing, and other creative programs.High-tech gurus and the anti-PC set dig the unique personality, fast and free function, and maverick Apple image. Nowadays, though, Apple is the crème of the mainstream world too, inlarge part thanks to its laptops.

What wows many consumers is slick beauty. TheApple iBooks, forinstance, come in white cases with a look that's eye-catching andhip, a design that's compact and highly portable. The iBook suitsstudents, academics, and home users alike.

The other major line of Apple laptops, the PowerBooks, were recently redesigned with a sheer, resilient anodizedaluminum finish. They have no sharp edges, no awkward buttons, and no loose sliding parts. This look gives the PowerBooks anindustrial and urban feel to match their target audience, hipsteryuppies and stylish business folk.

Apple attracts old and new fans because of theirtechnological innovations. Take the ambient light feature on thenew PowerBooks. It's a miracle for people who enjoy working inthe park on a sunny spring day. Normally, the sun's glare wouldobscure a screen. With the PowerBooks, light sensors onthe keyboard detect the sunlight and brighten the screen tocompensate. If you were to later enter a dark café, thelight sensors would darken the screen to help you see it.

Apple software is for a "digital lifestyle on the go," so it'sperfect for today's e-consumers with their iPods and digitalcameras. The heart of this lifestyle is the iLife softwarepackage, which manages your collections of digital music, movies, and photos. Its programs give you the capabilities to act like abig-time movie director or music producer. But it's notplayacting. You can actually edit and create your own featuresand tunes.
