The Shirt That Could Save the World - WiFi Detector |
![]() |
OK, that
might be going too far. This shirt has not saved the planet, and
chances are it won't. But there is the slight possibility-say, if
a Jack Bauer-esque spy character is trying to stop a bunch of
really mean terrorists from sending a thermonuclear device, via a
tunnel-digging machine, down into the center of the earth, and to
do so, our hero needs to use his wireless laptop Internet
connection to IM the exact location of the bad guys to call in an
air strike before it's too late. Then, this T-shirt would save
the world because it would be able to tell Bauer exactly where he
can find a wireless signal. |

Yes, from
the brilliant minds at Think Geek, a store of gear and
knickknacks for IT folks, the world now has a T-shirt that can
detect Wi-Fi signals and display for you, and all of the adoring
geeks around you, just how strong the signal is. The shirt comes
in only one color-black-from medium to XXL. On the front of it is a decal with the image of a radio antenna on it. The kicker-on either side of the antenna are five blue lines that look like signals emanating out of the tower. When the shirt is within a Wi-Fi pocket, these lines light up in a neon blue. The stronger the 802.11b and/or 802.11gWi-Fi signal, the more lines light up. At $29.99, that's a small price to pay for such a cool piece of geek accoutrement. Imagine yourself at the neighborhood coffee shop, all ablaze in wireless detection. Or just imagine yourself tromping around in the shirt at home, gleaming bright blue in the mirror thanks to the uber-strong signal you have hooked up for yourself there. But be forewarned, geeks. The shirt is washable, so please do. The Wi-Fi detecting patch is hooked to the fabric, and can easily be removed after a few, or many, wears. The three AAA batteries that provide the juice can also be taken out from the small pocket inside the shirt where they're stashed.
