Dell had a busy week at CES, unveiling the Adamo (pronounced Adahm-o, which is Latin for "to fall in love with") as well as the Dell Inspiron Mini 10, their latest netbook. Dell has also announced the new Inspiron 15, and XPS M1340, and M1640 notebooks.

For available details about the Adamo, look closer at the screen

The Adamo came up with a lot of hype, leading up to the much awaited debut at CES this past week. Excitingly, the laptop was presented with the help of various models and Dell proved that yes, it does exist. Unfortunately, we learned little else. No technical details were released, and all we could confirm is that it is indeed shiny and pretty. Dell spoke highly of its capabilities - "It will have better capabilities than you'd expect," says Senior VP of Consumer Products Alex Gruzen - and considering that it looks so nice and expensive, that will probably be true. Without mentioning internals, Dell did tell us that they focused a lot on the industrial design, using top of the line materials. (Via)

Inspiron Mini 10

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 fits snugly between the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and the Dell Inspiron Mini 12, but it is not just a slightly enlarged/shrunk down version of either. After the glossy lid and standard set of ports (3USB, Ethernet, audio in/out, card reader), it leaves other Inspirons behind. Not only is there a new HDMI-out port, but the keyboard is bigger than that of the 9 AND of the 12! As the single most frustrating thing to us about netbooks is the shrunken keyboard, this is a delight to hear on a 10" model. Dell has saved space for the keyboard by eliminating the trackpad buttons, following a Mac-like style of having the entire multi-touch trackpad become one giant button. We also know it sports a decent resolution at 1024x576 (16:9) and the new 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor. You should be able to get GPS, WWAN and a TV Tuner in it if you want. Pricing and availability details are slim, but it'll probably be in the expected netbook range, so don't expect any Sony "this is not a netbook and we'll charge you accordingly" stuff. (Via)

Inspiron 15

Rounding out the to-do list from Dell was a flood of XPS notebooks and an Inspiron 15. The Inspiron 15 is midrange stuff, featuring a 15.6" display with a 16:9 1366x768 resolution and weighing 5.8lbs. For $600 you can get it with a low end Intel dual-core processor but it can be upgraded to a full on Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM and a 320GB HDD. There's no HDMI or eSATA (though it has VGA), but you can get it with a Blu-ray player if you want to. Moving onto the drool-worthy XPS models, Dell's first 16" XPS appears in the form of the M1640. You get RGBLED technology with this laptop, providing 100% of the color gamut on your display, which is more than most. The resolution is 1080p.

1640

Throw in the 512MB GPU, 500GB HDD or 128GB SSD, Intel Core 2 processor with 4GB RAM, HDMI, DisplayPort, and eSATA connections, and 5.1 Dolby Digital sound and you've got a pretty useful little laptop. Speaking of little laptops, the M1340 is a 4.9lb, 13" model was also released. It starts with an Intel Core 2 Duo and Nvidia integrated graphics, but there's an upgrade for dedicated and the computer comes with on-the-fly switching between dedicated and integrated for the sake of your battery.

1340

Resolution gets as good as WXGA. Dell has been feelin' it stylistically lately, and both XPS models start at $1199 and feature glossy finishes, leather accents, aluminum body work and backlit keyboards and touchpads. (Via)
