Core 2 Dualing With Apple MacBook Pros

Macbook Pro with Core 2 Duo
MacBooks are out with the new Intel Core 2 Duos. As you surely have read here at Laptopical, the Core 2 Duos are real dual-core technology. That old Core Duo was just a warm up, like only running 4 cylinders in a V-8. Now you get the full throttle-which Apple claims makes the MacBook Pro as much as 39 percent faster than before. Hardware journalists AnandTech ran their own independent benchmark tests and found only a 10 percent increase but that's another story. :)
MacBooks are out with the new Intel Core 2 Duos. As you surely have read here at Laptopical, the Core 2 Duos are real dual-core technology. That old Core Duo was just a warm up, like only running 4 cylinders in a V-8. Now you get the full throttle-which makes the MacBook Pro faster than before.

Two models are available-the 15.4- and the 17-inch versions. Besides the obvious difference-the screen size, duh-the two versions have a few other tweaks. The smaller screen size weighs more than a pound less (another, well, duh!), 5.6 pounds versus 6.8 pounds. The bigger laptop has an 8x double-layer-burning SuperDrive, versus a 6x. And the big brother has one addition USB port-three to two.

What was that? The whole point of this piece? Oh, yes, what was I thinking? The Core 2 Duo. Yes, there is a nuanced difference in the two versions here as well. (Darn, you're pushy.) With the 15.4-inch, you have the choice of a 2.15 GHz or 2.33 GHz processor. In the 17-inch, you get no choice. Just the power of the 2.33 GHz for you.

Otherwise, the similarities between the two MacBook pro versions are many, and sweet. The processors provide up to 4MB of Smart Cache, topped off with up to 3GB of DDR2 memory. And while you're zipping around with dual-core, full-bore speed, you'll be able to store everything and anything you come across with up to 300GB of hard drive.

Then there are the Apple "iToys." The iChat app fuses with the iSight built-in camera to provide the power to video conference from any location in the world (where there's Internet).

And you don't need an "i" at the start of a tool for it to make your laptop action hot. Speaking of hot, let's hope Apple got a hold of the thermal paste issue that a few folks reported had caused some of the first Macbook Pros to overheat. Anyway the new core 2 duo MacBook comes with a MagSafe Airline Adapter to help you power up on a plane. Network wirelessly among other MacHeads with the AirPort Express capability. Connect wireless to your Blackberry with built-in Bluetooth. Show off that DVD or your PowerPoint with the Front Show multimedia show that is the MacBook Pro.

Many Windows users would like to try a Mac but are hesitant to leave behind the Windows-based applications they are used to, but don't forget: you can use both Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger and a Windows operating system with this dual core laptop thanks to Apple's Boot Camp software.
