Acer Laptop For Under $1,000: The Aspire 5100 |

Acer is making it easier for the rest of us to enjoy a cutting-edge multimedia machine. The laptop manufacturer has released its new Aspire 5100, starting at $899. That price makes it affordable to buy into the future of computing-64-bit and dual-core processing. The Aspire 5100's AMD Turion 64 X2 processor packs both. Now on to the media in multimedia. For gaming, the graphics speed is enhanced care of the ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 graphics card, with 128 MB dedicated memory. The card can tap into an additional 384 MB from shared system memory, for a total of 512 MB. |

But gaming is
just one multi in the multimedia equation. The Aspire 5100 is
capable of streaming digital material from your MP3 player,
camera, camcorder or even personal video recorders. It also
features a double-layer DVD drive to watch and burn your favorite
movies. The high-end drive available in the 5100 is an HD-DVD
drive. Whatever media you're dealing with, it should look good. The Aspire's 15.4-inch widescreen comes with Acer's own CrystalBrite coating, which gives the display added clarity and brightness. The Acer Aspire 5100 is packed with all of the ports and slots that you could need as well. There's a 5-in-1 card reader, built-in wireless, optional Bluetooth module, Ethernet, four USBs, ExpressCard, DVI-D, FireWire, S-Video/TV, and PC card slot. And for all that connectivity-with digital files flowing in and out of your Aspire notebook-you'll need somewhere to store all of them. That's where the hard drive comes in, with up to 160 GB of storage space. It's not a bad package for under $1,000. But wait, there's more. Acer offers a boatload of proprietary software and technology, such as QuicCharge, a technology that makes for longer battery life and quicker recharging. Then there's Acer Empowering Technology suite, which makes provides a navigation bar so you can more easily control your Aspire 5100 laptop's multimedia features.
