AlienExchange: Out-of-This-World Recycling |
![]() |
Folks from
Alienware must really be from the Andromeda galaxy, or somewhere
else far, far away. Their new AlienExchange program seems too
good to be of this Earth. The concept is simple enough: it's
basically a recycling program. You send in the out-dated,
burnt-out and otherwise worthless computer and electronic devices
collecting dust in your house. Alienware then somehow magically
turns them into a brand-new Alienware
laptop, complete with some of the fastest, meanest gaming
hardware from here to the Oort cloud. |

They must
have some sort of ultra-advanced transmogrifying machine, capable
of melting, mashing and rematerializing electronic matter, right?
If so, Alienware's AlienExchange could be the final proof we need
of out-of-this-world life. Wait, hold on a second. I got past my Area 51 Amazement and read their Web site a bit closer, and I am sorry to report that, no, AlienExchange is not proof of life beyond the confines of Earth. Instead, really, it's just an earthly recycling program. Alienware does not actually remold the pieces you send them into a spanky fresh new laptop. You let Alienware know what sort of old Alienware desktops and notebooks, cameras, other brand laptops, servers, projectors, audio receivers, mobile phones, and auto radios, among other items you want to send in. They will estimate what their trade-in value is. (At the moment, they're running a special-Alienware trade-ins get an additional $200 added on top of the regular amount). Alienware will give you a prepaid shipping label to send the stuff in. Then about a week after they receive the items, they will send out an Alienware gift card or check, which you then can recycle into a new gaming supercenter notebook. So as you can see, Alienware is in fact very earthly-earthy and green in fact. But at least their AlienExchange could be one of the best trade-in programs on the planet.
