Affordable? - The 3000 Lenovo Series |
|
When Lenovo purchased the coveted Thinkpad brand from IBM in a billion dollar plus deal back in 2004, many tech journalists where sceptical as to the quality of future Thinkpads. The X41 Tablet PC helped soothe concerns, since then we've had more laptop goodness in the form of the widescreen Z series, and dual core thin and light X60 and T60 ultraportables. |

Flushed with the success of their stewardship of the Thinkpad
legacy, Lenovo are now feeling confident enough to release a line of affordable
laptops under their own brand, aimed at the small business sector.
Introducing the Lenovo 3000 series: N100 Lenovo 3000 Tipping the scales at 5.8 pounds, this silver lidded widescreen notebook has a choice of two WSXGA glossy screen sizes - 14.1 inch and 15.4 inches. The N100 is available with a 1.83 GHz dual core processor, and a 100 GB hard drive. Of course this kind of configuration is standard fare in 2006, but when you take a look at the entry level price of 799 dollars, you can see that Lenovo are really offering value for money. The N100 is bluetooth enabled, and also has a number of useful features for the small business user. These include an integrated fingerprint reader for improved laptop security, and a system recovery button, to help restore the C3000 N100 if it comes under critical attack from trojans, worms and viruses. Memory can be upgraded to a useful 2GB DDR2. C100 Lenovo 3000 Not as good looking, and a little chunkier than it's N100 brother, (it weighs in at a robust 6.2 pounds), the C100 is unfortunately a little lighter in the processor department. No blazing dual core this time, instead the C100 sports a 1.73-GHz Pentium M 740 processor. Before you get disapointed, this 3000 Lenovo notebook is also lighter on the wallet, indeed entry level C100s can be purchased for 599 dollars. The C100 is available with 15 inch XGA screen, 80 GB of hard drive capacity, and like the N100 2GB of RAM. Unfortunately no bluetooth capability, or fingerprint reader on the C100. In my opinion Lenovo 3000 series notebooks are not as stylish as some of the elegant Thinkpads that have graced the market recently, however the C100 and the N100 are certainly affordable laptops, and do offer excellent value for money.
