Acer's Warranty Service Just Got Better

Attention, high-end Acer notebook owners: You can shelve your picket signs for "Give Extended Warranties!" and "We Want Onsite Pick-Up and Return!" If you're either an Acer owner or a wannabe, Christmas came early this year.

On March 15, Acer Computer Australia will take steps to improve and update their warranty service levels on the higher-end notebooks -- Extensa and Aspire series' TravelMate and Premium TravelMate (models TM8100, TM3200, and TM380) -- in response to recent customer research.

A whopping 80 percent of Acer notebook customers responded to those research efforts, declaring their most urgent preferences: among them, pick-up, repair, and return service, and, even better, onsite notebook warranties.

Even more respondents reported a high preference for a three-year standard warranty on their high-end notebooks. And Acer is prepared to deliver -- particularly if you buy after March 15.

Although Acer's standard two-hour Express Service will not be included in the March 15 initiative, TravelMate customers will have the option to upgrade to a one-year, two-hour Express Service for $99, and a three-year upgrade is set at $299.

Also, the Extensa and Aspire series notebooks will have a one-year return to base warranty.

So, if you're already an Acer owner, your warranties will stay the same for the duration of the agreed warranty period. The new warranty Service Levels will apply only to those orders placed with Acer from March 15 on forward.

Realizing from their survey results that customers are using their notebooks more as desktop replacements, and not exclusively for travel. Consequently most weren't too happy about having to drive a sick notebook to Acer Hospital, so execs decided it was definitely "time for a cool change."

These changes will also benefit retailers, who won't have to throw down the red carpet and beg customers to upgrade before leaving the store: The Premium three-year warranty will already be sitting prettily on the shelves -- a very attractive asset, indeed.
