A couple of the latest notebook releases from the chaps at Acer, the TravelMate 4260 and Aspire 5650 series, are among the first notebooks to sport embedded third-generation wireless tech.

Image of Acer Aspire 5650 laptopI hate tosay it, but people in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa mayhave something on the Americans. OK, maybe you guys have a lot upon the U.S. of A. But the one thing in particular that I was referring to was your affinity for Acers. Acer is the leading laptop seller in those three regions, and it all makes perfect sensewhen you consider the latest TravelMate 4260 and Aspire 5650notebook releases from the manufacturer.
Acerrecently announced that it's adding 3G-or third generationwireless technology-to its newest TravelMate 4260 and Aspire 5650models. 3G has it up on second-generation wireless because thenewer technology has better roaming capabilities and is faster,as much as seven times faster than 56k dial-up (not that thatsays too much).

Still, newer is better, and we shouldn't knock improvements towireless technology. And we shouldn't knock Acer for being one of thefirst to include 3G in a notebook. Inpractical terms, the new technology means that people on the gowill have less problem sending large files via e-mail, connectingto the office server, or chatting via IM.

And to further show its dedication to its loyal customers, Acerhas made sure to make the laptops easilyupgradeable to the newest wireless (HSDPA) standard used inEurope, Japan, and North America for voice and data delivery.

Not to take anything away from this great news about faster andmore reliable wireless, but we should probably also mention thatthe new TravelMates and Aspires come with the most talked aboutprocessor on the market right now-the Intel "Napa"platform. It's a Centrino Duo two-processor core with 945PMExpress chipset and a PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connectionchipset.

That, my friends, makes everything faster, not justwireless.
