Intel Announce RecordProfits

Intel, the globe's biggest chip maker, has just announced record 2nd quarter profits. This success is partly due to increased sales of Centrino processors, fueled by the public's insatiable appetite for laptop computers. When you consider that Intel chips power the majority of the world's desktop computers and notebooks, this kind profitability is not suprising. However, with the threat of Turion looming, can it be sustained?

It'sunlikely that Intel are shaking in their boots at the loomingthreat of AMD's 64 bit Turion processor, or Via's C7-Mchip. The world's biggest chipmaker has just announced record 2ndquarter profits, partly due to increased sales of Centrino chips,fueled by the public's insatiable appetite for laptops.

Net income rose to $2.04 billion, and no wonder - Intel chipspower the majority of the world's personal computers. Founded in 1968, Intel created the world's first microprocessorback in 1971. Today they employ 85,000 people. Even Gordon Moore,one of Intel's innovative co-founders, couldn't have predictedthis kind of success.

The champagne must be flowing at Intel HQ, maybe that's whythey've decided to give away one 1500 dollar laptop, and four"Mobile Entertainment Starter Kits" (around 350 bucks each) in acompetition open to the general public.

The "Unwired Travel Sweepstakes," competition began on July 20thand will run until August the 31st.

The Centrino mobile laptop winner will be selected after a randomdrawing, from among all eligible entries received during thepromotion period.
