Ride into tech battle on the silver barded, multimedia warhorse from Dell - The Inspiron 9300 desktop replacement. This impressive Inspiron is armed with a 17-inch widescreen display, 2.0-GHz Intel Pentium M 760 processor, the nVidia GeForce Go 6800 graphics processor, and 6 USB ports......Victory!

It won't belong before laptops are runningthe world. And we're not talking at the behest of their owners.Notebooks will be the owners! The Dell Inspiron 9300 moveslaptops one step closer to this global domination. The newInspiron, though, is not to be feared. It's to be marveledat.

Kidding aside, the Inspiron 9300 takes multimedia mobility to anotherplace - a place made by possible by its Windows XP Media CenterEdition 2005 (MCE 2005) OS. Digital Video Recorder (DVR)capabilities and digital video editing are just two of thefeatures that MCE 2005 empowers the Inspiron to handle.

These abilities and more make it easier to excuse the Dell'svirtual love handles. (It weighs 8.1 pounds.)
You can't complain, for instance, about the Intel Centrino technology and the nVidia GeForce Go 6800 graphics accelerator, which scored a2,916 on the 3DMark 2005 at 1024x768 resolution. The 2.0-GHzIntel Pentium M 760 and 1GB DDR2 RAM don't hurt either. The Inspiron 9300 ports are heavily armed, too. This Dell laptop offers six USBs,an S-video, a FireWire, and a DVI-D. Standard, Dell throws ina DVD+/-RW drive, so you can burn everything you accomplish withthe MCE 2005.

If Dell got cheap anywhere, it's exactly where it tried to go cutting-edge. Yes,we're talking the MCE 2005 again. To be able to record televisionprograms adequately, you need a tuner and probably at least 100GBof hard-drive breathing room. Dell makes you upgrade to getthese. They only add $149 and $199 to the 9300's price tag, respectively, so it's hardly a deal breaker on a $2800+computer.

That means multimedia moguls have a new laptop to consider. Asfor the rest of us, we need to keep looking over our shoulders. The computer revolution will not be televised.
