Review of the Qosmio G20 From Toshiba

Science fiction villains, from the devious Davros, to the melon headed Mekon, all lacked one vital component to bring their plans for galactic domination to fruition - a Qosmio G20.

Qosmio means "my personal universe", and late last month Toshiba updated their new line of best selling audio visual notebooks, by announcing the Qosmio G20 desktop replacement laptop, a little late for the Mekon and his cronies, but right on time for multimedia laptop lovers.

The G20 was created to to be a mobile multimedia hub, and is both a gamer's and graphic editor's delight, with it's crisp 17 inch display, powerful 2.0GHz pentium M processor and 80GB hard drive. The new qosmio's elegant black chassis houses an integrated tv tuner with remote control, and the loaded software - QosmioPlayer - allows instantaneous playback of DVD movies, or CDs/MP3s - that's right no need to boot up the laptop to watch the latest blockbuster, or listen to audio.

Music will sound great pumping out of the classy Harman Kardon speakers, located just above the keyboard, the G20 also offers television, audio and DVD/HDD recording cabability.....Bonus!

Weighing in at a solid 4.3 kg, the G20 isn't that portable, but that's not it's strength. This laptop has been designed to sit stylishly in your lounge, and be an all in one tv, music system and computer. Still if you decide to take this notebook on the road, and want to hook up to the internet via a hotspot, the Qosmio is wireless enabled, you also have Bluetooth for short-distance connections to phones, and PDAs. Make sure you stay close to the mains power supply though, this laptops's battery life is only 2 hours.

Laptop gamer's needn't grumble, the G20 contains an Nvidia GeForce Go 6600 graphics chip with 128 MB of dedicated DDR VRAM. The G20 also features Toshiba's new RAID technology - RAID stands for redundant array of independent disks. This tech allows simultaneous data duplication, meaning everything on your hard drive will be mirrored, which is a great safeguard against hard drive crashes.

If jealous Davros orders a Dalek to disintegrate your hard drive, no problem, you always have your precious audio and video files backed up. However, you can also opt to disable the security feature, and instead double the capacity of the hard drive, from 80GB to 160 GB.

So if you're a heavy multimedia user with a few grand to spare, or a minted hooray henry looking for the latest gadget to grace the reading room of your Chelsea bachelor pad, the Qosmio G20 could be for you.
