Widescreen Ultraportable? - Acer Ferrari 1000

Image of Acer Ferrari 1000
By now most are familiar with Acer's eye-catching Ferrari line of laptops. If not let me refresh your memory. The 4000 was the world's first carbon fiber notebook, and was a past winner of a coveted Laptopical award. It's high end specs, and attractive design proved massively popular with the gaming multimedia crowd, however, not everyone swoons at the image of a hunky desktop replacement. Thankfully Acer are about to rectify that situation with the announcement of the ultraportable Ferrari 1000 laptop.
Sporting a 12.1 inch widescreen, the 1000 will tip the scales at 1.7kg, and will be powered by the AMD Turion X2, a 64 bit dual core processor primed for the Windows Vista operating system, and ideal for multi-tasking. Like its predecessors the Ferrari 1000 will boast Ferrari's inimitable red and black color scheme, and will be emblazoned with the Prancing Horse logo.

This ultraportable Acer 1000 notebook will also boast a 1.3-megapixel web camera situated on top of the wide-screen display. We first noticed the "Orbicam" in the TravelMate 8200, it has 225-degree rotation, and allows face-2-face online communication. This is a laptop feature ideal for road warriors, thousands of miles away from home, yet eager to virtually participate in meetings back at the office.

Full hardware specs or an official release date have yet to be announced, and Formula One racing is not everyone's cup of tea. However, if Acer manage to get the pricing right for this ultraportable, I expect them to shift truckloads of Ferrari 1000s in 2006.
