Ultraportable Notebook - Dell Latitude D410

Summer is here, and right now at Laptopical HQ, it's hot enough to fry an egg on the editor's prominent forehead. So the last thing I want to do in all this heat, is carry a bulky desktop replacement notebook, back and forth to the office with me. With that in mind, I thought I'd introduce you to a pleasant, but powerful Dell laptop in the ultralight class, the Latitude D410.

That's why I've been pleased of late to see a flurry of quality ultraportables hit the mobile market. First we had Toshiba's LibrettoU100, then Acer's red dot design winning Travelmate3000 IBM's ultralight x41 Thinkpad and the Sony Vaio T2 -To name but four.
Now Dell have released the Latitude D410, an ultraportable with a 1.86-GHzIntel Pentium M processor, a 12.1 inch screen, and a battery lifeof almost 5 hours. This sonoma laptop, indeed one of the first ultraportables to utilise intel'simproved centrino platform, achieved rock solid 4 out of 5ratings from Laptop magazine and PCMag, but both noted thatthe D410's keyboard was a little cramped.

So if you feel like getting grandpa online this summer, and wantto relieve some pressure on the poor geezer's arthritic elbowsand knees, (the Dell D410 weighs just 3.8 pounds), thisultraportable could be right up your tech alley.

Better still, buy him the biggest 20lb Pentium 6 Desktopreplacement you can find. In this heat, the old chap will have acardiac arrest lugging that laptop monolith around with him, andyou'll come into your inheritance a few years early.
