Acer have been proudly showcasing their Ferrari 4000 top end notebook at Computex 2005. This gorgeous machine is about as subtle as a gold plated Lexus, but Acer are not aiming for the bargain bin of the market. Sales has been booming for Acer in Europe and the far east, but they have yet to transfer those impressive figures, over to the lucrative American market. However, with the release of the Ferrari 4000 (equipped with Turion processor), Acer and Ferrari, may just have unearthed, a genuine formula 1 podium contender.
Earlier inthe year, an Acer spokesperson confidently predicted that many new laptops, (especially those in the thin-and-light category, estimated to comprise over 50 percent of all notebooks sold by 2007), will be equipped with the Turionarchitecture. Not one to go back on a promise, Acer have chosen to slam an AMDTurion 64 processor right into the engine room of their latesttop end laptop - The Acer Ferrari4000.
Emblazoned with the famous Ferrari Prancing Horse logo, you cansee that Acer have real ambition for this 4000 laptop - With it'sstriking red and black carbon fiber casing, a casing (weighing2.86kg) Acer state is the same as that used on the body ofFormula One race cars.
Acer Inc. President Gianfranco Lanci was quoted as saying:
".....After almost two years of partnership, and successfuland innovative notebooks such as the Ferrari 3200 and 3400, Acerhas designed a truly exclusive notebook that expresses our firmintention to stay at the forefront of innovation....."
Once released globally (June 2005 predicted) the Acer Ferrari 4000will come with 1GB of system memory, 100GB hard drive, 15.4 inchdisplay, a DVD reader and burner, 4 USB 2.0 ports, S-Video outport, FireWire IEEE 1394 interface and a 5-in-1 memory cardreader. The Acer Ferrari 4000 will also be wireless and andBluetooth enabled.
Though Acer have yetto conquer the states, they are currently the leading laptopbrand in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Who knows, thismodel notebook could help them crack the U.S market?
Acer showcased the 4000 at Computex 2005 in may, but a price forthe Ferrari has yet to be announced. Let's hope it's not onlyaffordable by the likes of those on a formula 1 driver's salary:)

I have a lot to say about the Qosmio. Firstly, the thing is just ugly. It looks like a storm trooper found in rubbel of the Death Star. But as for it's specs, it just under performs. The 8600m GT is a good gaming card, but it is an entry gaming card. It should not be used on a laptop as expensive as this one. The same goes for the processor. I'd like to see at least 2.6GHz on a laptop built for gaming and media encoding. And another point...where's the number pad? 17" laptops now come standard with number pads. There's so much extra room on the palm rest area of this laptop that it feels like Anderson Cooper's forehead.
I'd say a much better alternative would be the Factor Gaming X-91: http://www.factorgaming.com/GamingLaptopX-91.php
It comes standard with a 3.0GHz processor, a 9800m GT (MUCH faster than a 8600m), and a touch pad.
My friend has one and I will be getting mine shortly (can someone say jealously?). Anyways, maybe you guys will review it one of these days.
Until then, I hope Toshiba picks up their game and stops designing ugly laptops!

I bought an Acer Ferrari 4000 a little more then a year ago, I last the OS disc, so the laptop drive crashed once and I order a set of recovery discs from Acer, they sent me Norton ghost image instead of OS or an OEM disc and got charge. the ghost image disc worked once but again had the same problem which laptop won't boot normally and it complains about missing system 32 file which only can be find on original disc, I called Acer technical support department several times, wasted my time and put lots of charges on my cellphone bill, even sent tones of email but didn't get any results. Acer computers and customer support department really sucks, they don't have enough knowledge about computers. they just playing people around. Never buy from them again and I hope they go to hell.
